Antennas and Propagation
Students who follow this
course will gain an understanding of the fundamental principles of
radiation, antennas, arrays, propagation, feed systems and safety
considerations. They will learn about practical antennas and feed systems,
in particular for the HF, VHF and UHF bands, how to deploy such antennas
in the field and how to repair them in an emergency. They will be able to
calculate resonance, gain, directivity, efficiency, RF power density and
perform a simple link budget analysis. They will understand polarization
and the effect of the earth on an antenna’s performance. They will also
become familiar with antenna measurements. For more information please contact:

Radio Network Planning
Students who follow this
course will understand the propagation characteristics of the various
frequency bands used for radio communication systems. In particular they
will become familiar with the VHF and UHF bands. They will be able to make
calculations of path losses in free space, over a plane uncluttered earth
and over obstructed paths of various kinds. They will understand the
effect of surface roughness and the atmosphere, on radio waves. They will
gain some familiarity with well-known models for the prediction of path
loss in urban, suburban and rural areas. They will become familiar with
the the characteristics and statistics of fading caused by multipath
propagation. The material will be brought together to give an un
understanding of the nature of interference and the architecture of
planning tools and will culminate in a design example of a network plan. For more information please contact:

MATLAB®
Fundamentals & Programming Techniques
This course provides
comprehensive hands-on training in the use of MATLAB as a programming
language and is typically taught over two-days. MATLAB is used for
advanced data analysis, visualisation and 3-D plotting. MATLAB
Fundamentals and Programming Techniques gives a thorough grounding in
using MATLAB to develop solutions for a variety of applications. The
course contains a number of lectures and workshops that are presented in a
relaxed manner by experienced MATLAB users. For more information please

MATLAB®
Advanced Topics
This course complements and
extends the material presented in MATLAB Fundamentals & Programming
Techniques. MATLAB Advanced Topics takes a closer look at
MATLAB's programming capabilities and teaches methods of working with
large sets of data, their manipulation and visualization. It also explains
methods of importing and exporting data from and to other applications.
The course also addresses the graphical user interface which allows users
to develop sophisticated front ends for their MATLAB code. For more
information please contact:
